Mrs. Dall’Osto said “The people in Division 2 feel that they do not have a voice in Council and they are being ignored. As the fastest growth area in the region it is vital that this community is connected to Council processes and becomes more involved in the decisions that directly affect them. I pledge to remain an active presence in the area, to listen and to adequately respond to the issues that are important to residents.”
“Division 2 is home to many small business operators and a specific goal is to work together with State and Federal Government members and officials to ensure a Government Office will be included in the construction of the Library as part of the new Edmonton Town Centre. A one stop shop for all government tiers.”
“Recently I worked with MP Curtis Pitt and Cr Rob Pyne to organise donations from the community for a family who lost everything in a house fire at Mt Sheridan. The experience taught me a lot about the strong community spirit in this area and allowed me to work with two of the most community minded people in politics. It also cemented my belief that collaboration with all tiers of Government is essential to our regions future.”
“There are also calls for sporting pursuits, particularly those for young children, to be a focal part of Council development in the Division. By working together with sporting groups, Council officers and interested residents, this can be achieved.”
Leigh Dall’Osto is a local resident who grew up watching the region transform itself from a small town to a city with many outlying suburban centres. She says that creating an effective balance between tourism, industry, environment, innovation and education is the key to revitalising the region as these are our known areas of excellence.

Like nature, politics abhors a vacuum and as night follows day forces rush in to fill that void. An extension of this phenomena is Division 2 of the Cairns Regional Council. It is currently represented by Cr N Lanskey who won the Division following the retirement of popular and long serving Fran Lindsay in 2008 and a long list of candidates will most likely nominate.
The Division is the fastest growing area within the Cairns Regional Council and as such is a real challenge to represent with numerous competing interests and requires a dedicated 'hands on' representative.
The controversy surrounding 'Sugar World' highlights the need for a person that has a passion for the area and is prepared to get her/his hands dirty and not just rely on the advice of Council Officers.
The political reality is that the Schier Council brand name is anything but popular and lacks political respect and skill. Therefore, it stands obvious that any one that is associated with the current Council except for Julia Leu and Robert Pyne, is tarred with the same brush and will find it difficult to be re-elected.
Leigh Dall'Osto is a hard working and committed individual who has a reputation of community involvement whom I believe has the potential to walk the political tight rope and succeed where the present Councillor Nancy Lanskey has failed.
