GBR college boss Kim Andersen to seek LNP candidacy for seat of Cairns
The head of the Great Barrier Reef International Marine College has announced his intention to run for the Liberal National Party in State politics.
Kim Andersen has nominated himself as an Liberal National Party’s candidate for the seat of Cairns.
He will be in the running for endorsement by the party against the Cairns Post’s editor-at-large Gavin King.
Mr Andersen lodged his nomination form last Friday.
The former fisheries officer will retain his position as manager of the college until the LNP announces its chosen candidate.
Mr Andersen said he always had a keen interest in politics and believed his experience in both private enterprise and government would be an asset to the LNP.
“There is much talk about doom and gloom in Cairns,’’ he said.
“I love my city and believe passionately in its future.’’
