G20 summit - Brisbane tipped to host summit

Prime Minister Julia Gillard is expected to announce tomorrow that Brisbane will host the G20 summit in 2014.

Last month, Ms Gillard joined world leaders at this year's G20 summit in Mexico.

Australia will host the international meeting in November 2014 and Ms Gillard is expected to name Brisbane as the host city.

A spokesman for Queensland Premier Campbell Newman says it is understood the city is the Federal Government's preferred venue.

He said, however, that given the current position of the state's finances, Queensland would push for the Commonwealth to cover the entire cost.

Around 4,000 delegates and 3,000 international media are expected to attend the event, which is likely to be held at the Brisbane Exhibition and Convention Centre.
