Policehave charged a 41-year-old man with the murder and abduction of missing Sunshine Coast schoolboy Daniel Morcombe.

The 13-year-old went missing in 2003, sparking Queensland's biggest missing persons investigation.

Tonight Commissioner Bob Atkinson announced police had charged a Perth man with murder, deprivation of liberty, child stealing, indecent treatment of a child and interfering with a corpse.

The man was living on the Sunshine Coast at the time of the highly publicised disappearance.

Daniel's parents, Denise and Bruce, confirmed tonight they had been made aware of the arrest but would not issue a  statement until tomorrow.

Daniel was waiting on the side of the road to catch a bus to buy Christmas presents on December 7, 2003 when he was last seen. Witnesses said they saw a scruffy, gaunt-looking man next to him.

The arrest comes just days after police issued a renewed push to find the teenager, saying it remained an "ongoing priority" eight years on.

to…HaHa). You certainly put a new spin on a
topic which has been discussed for years. Excellent stuff,
